de la Mothe, Andrew

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at the age of 80. Loving husband of Nancy. Cherished father of Heather Norwood (Tod) of Cambridge, Daniel de la Mothe (Daniela) of Waterloo, and Jon de la Mothe (Noelle) of Toronto. Beloved grandfather of Benjamin (Alysha), Kristine (Patrick), Katherine (Matthew), David (Stephanie), Sam, and Madeline and great-grandfather of Benjamin and Kayden. Andrew will also be sadly missed by his sisters Margaret (John), Frances (Rick), and Jo (Julian); and his sisters-in-law Marg Wynia and Gwen Freeman. Predeceased by his parents Kathleen and Rog de la Mothe, his beloved daughter Susan May, and his sister Catherine. Andrew came to Canada 49 years ago on holiday, where he met and quickly decided to marry Nancy and her three children. Two years later, Jon completed the family. Andrew always loved being with his children, grandchildren, great grand kids, and all the family dogs. St. John’s Anglican Church community benefitted from many years of his devotion and service. His working years included teaching the Graphic Technician Program at Conestoga College, running his own graphic design company, and designing cemetery stones. In keeping with Andrew’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, 567 Queenston Rd, Cambridge on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington or the Fairview Mennonite Home LTC. The family would like to extend many thank yous to all the staff at Fairview Mennonite Home, with particular mention for the love and support this past week.

Dear Nancy & family, what a gift Andrew was to the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank as a Member of the Board Of Directors.
Andrews wisdom, compassion and caring was always appreciated at the Board table.

We were so sorry to learn this week of Andrew’s death. His passing brought back all sorts of memories.

We first met Andrew when he visited Canada, on vacation, and then decided to stay on. He was our neighbour for many years and we remained friends ever since. Over time, we have had many reasons to be grateful to Andrew and family for their friendship and kindness.

To the end, Andrew was a good and gentle man. We will miss him very much.

I have amazing memories of my grandpa. One of my favorite memories is camping with my little sister and my g-ma he let us sit around the fire putting butterflie clips in his hair. And we laughed until it hurt. I remember going to the grave yard and he would show us how to do rubbings on all the grave stones, and how my g-ma and grandpa would babysit us and we would sneak out of our room to go watch tv and he would see us and smile and tell us to be quiet so g-ma wouldn't know you will be missed more then I could put into words. I will always love you bumpa

I will never forget Andrew, he was the first person to greet and welcome my daughter and I at St. John's with opened arms, which is the reason why I am a member of this parish. Andrew was always a very pleasant, warm, gentle man.
